Today I have one of my favorite people just where I want her for a change. Deadra is the person who normally whips my manuscripts into shape so its a change to have her under my control for a short time and I'm going to make the most of it. Thanks for coming over to my place Deadra. Right, lets jump straight in with the questions then because I know how busy you are.
1. You write in several different genres. Which one do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy the kind where the woman whips her man until he bows before her. Okay, so maybe that’s not true. The real answer is (before Ann takes a whip to me!), I enjoy the kind where romance is rediscovered in a marriage the most.
2. How do you find balance with your writing and real life?
I don’t! There is no balance. I had such little balance last year, I didn’t write anything. Then my son enrolled in martial arts and I discovered this wonderful hour, twice a week, where I’m free to write as he takes his class. It’s magic!
3. Describe yourself in 3 words.
Don’t wanna know. Oh, that’s not what you meant? Ummm... Eccentric, devious, snarky.
4. What fears do you face with the release of each book?
That I’ll become an overnight millionaire from sales alone and turn into a narcissist. Fine, fine. I guess once in a while, I can open up and be a tad bit of a softy... That everyone who reads my stories are going to be like, “This is such utter *bleep* that I can believe I read it. D. F., you need to *bleeping, bleepity bleep* you *bleep bleeper*.”
5. You said this book was very close to your heart. tell us why.
In all seriousness, because my marriage sucked for a couple of years there. It really angered me that everyone I turned to and expressed my fears and pain to were like, “Well, you’re married. Did you think the passion would stay?” Uh yeah, I did. Who wants a marriage where the love dies and life is co-existing and routine? No one does, if I’m to judge by how many people I talked to who admit they are frustrated in their marriages. So I did something about it. Then I decided to write a whole series based on common marriage problems and couples doing something about it. It won’t help me take over the world, but maybe people will start realizing marriages can still be romantic and sexy.
6. What more can we expect from you and when?
Book 2, Rekindled Desires is currently due to come out in May. Book 3, Defiant Desires is set to release in July. I’ve also got a military short romance, Serving Her Heart, that will be coming out this summer (date set when I finally find a cover model that makes me happy and doesn’t look like a camo-covered stripper!). See, those martial arts classes turned into a blessing for me. ;)
Well you kind of have to take those precious writing minutes when you can, I totally understand that. Thank you so much for your time today and good luck with the next books. Let me know when they come out and we can chat again.
When D. F. Krieger was banned from writing contests at her school, she immediately set it in her head that she would become a professional writer. Since then, she has thrown away her plans of world domination through books, but she still enjoys writing. Her tastes run from classy urban witches to dragons, space pirates to shape shifters. By the time she pens her final book with a hand ravaged by age, she hopes to introduce her readers to many alternate worlds, lines of thinking, and captivating characters.
You can find D. F. on the East Coast, hiding away from the real world with a gleam in her eye and a plot in her head. She resides with her husband, kids, and pets; who all kindly put up with her random bouts of laughter (over things she can't explain) and journal collecting fetish.
